About
Union-Snyder Community Action Agency's mission is to reduce poverty in Union and Snyder Counties through self-sufficiency initiatives for families and individuals in collaboration with our community partners. This includes meeting their basic needs, which includes food. CAA has several different initiatives focused on food insecurity:
1. CAA currently provides administrative support for four food pantries located in Union and Snyder counties: Lewisburg Food Pantry, Mifflinburg YMCA mobile distribution (CAA manages this distribution as well), Loaves and Fishes (Selinsgrove), and Five Barley Loaves (McClure).
2. The Food Hub is a program of the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency operating out of Miller Center’s kitchen in Lewisburg. The Food Hub is an innovative and flexible solution to local food insecurity as it re-distributes food donations from the community to the 40+ food access programs in Union and Snyder counties as well as to individuals in emergency need of food, who, for a variety of reasons, may not be able to access the other food resources in the area. In addition, through its partnership with the Miller Center, which is powered by Evangelical Community Hospital and Geisinger Health System, the Food Hub strives to serve as a site for health education programming, including nutrition classes and community health outreach events.
3. The Union-Snyder Hunger Coalition is a network of over 100 community members and representatives from organizations ranging from social service agencies to food pantries to local schools who are united by a mission to improve the collective response to food insecurity in Union and Snyder counties and educate the community.
