    1613 Blazer Kitchen Volunteer Shifts

I really enjoyed volunteering at Blazer Kitchen this semester. During this shift, I learned that Blazer Kitchen provides holiday boxes to shoppers for Thanksgiving. The holiday boxes provided shoppers with a whole chicken and other goods. I liked being able to help patients obtain the goods they needed for Thanksgiving the most. This was a very rewarding experience. The most challenging aspect of this shift was having an unhoused individual come in and ask for food. This was challenging because the individual was not a part of the UAB community, so Blazer Kitchen was unable to serve him, and we had to inform them of this. Luckily some of the volunteers had snacks and drinks that we were able to give. My key takeaway was how great the need is for food pantries in our community. This has encouraged me to continue volunteering and advocating for similar food pantries.
